The story of Eskedar and Ethiopia’s Black Gold

Thirteen years ago, a young lady called Eskedar arrived in Malta as a refugee fleeing her troubled homeland  in Africa. Her boat was intercepted by Malta’s naval forces and brought safely to shore.

Malta became home to her, but she was always rooted to her homeland and her family in Ethiopia, who ran coffee plantations for generations.

Eventually she moved from Malta to Lithuania, where she set up her very own coffee brand which takes after her name – Eskedar cafe. Her two distinct coffee blends, the Buna and the Sidamo, are sold exclusively in Malta at our store in Birgu.

Eskedar’s story with Malta has now come full circle.
